July Favourites 2017

This July we invested in our love of great coffee, I sampled more delicious Vegan pizza and ate THE best pancakes made from nothing but coconuts. Read on to find out more!

De Longhi Coffee Machine

For the past year and a half, we haven’t stopped fantasising about owning a coffee machine. Being a bit of a coffee addict and unconsciously missing my barista days, i’ve wanted to save the pennies from purchasing on the go coffee and to create my own each morning. Our trip to Bergamo sealed the deal when our apartment came with a De Longhi machine that allowed us to make rich cappuccinos each morning. Upon return and after a bit of research, we settled for a similar model priced at £125. Cringing at the thought of departing with a large amount of money, we soon calculated how much we would save on a monthly basis by not purchasing our on the go kind. Spending only £2.50 on a bag of Costa grounds that last us two weeks will inevitably save us hundreds per year.  Moreover, the act of making a latte each morning is not only therapeutic but an act of self-love.

An All Vegan Wedding

July 2017 was the first for attending an ALL VEGAN medieval wedding. We were dressed in Saxon tunic’s, took part in throwing an axe or two and dined on some incredible plant-based food. The food bonanza began with a late lunch buffet of avocado and veg wraps, hummus sandwiches, and crunchy balsamic bruschetta not to mention a selection of cake slices to suit every palate. The real star of the show was delivered by the fantastic company, The Spotless Leopard who usually serve wholesome Vegan food on the road and at festivals. From the van window I chose the sweet potato and lentil shepherds pie with salad, coleslaw and a side of chips to soak up the Prosecco. The other options were a Tofu and veg wrap or a lentil burger – spoilt for choice I’d say. I will definitely be on the lookout for these lovely ladies on the road or when I am next at a festival.

Yorica Ice Cream

My love for ice cream has grown since I became Vegan seeing as I am no longer doubled over in pain due to an intolerance. I had heard about Yorica for quite some time before stumbling across it late in July when on a girls evening out. Yorica sells all vegan ice cream, frozen yoghurt, waffles and crepes all with amazing topping options. I kept it simple and went for a raspberry brownie tub of ice cream with added fresh raspberries and candy sprinkles. Indulgent, moorish and satisfying – I can’t wait to go back and try the fro-yo!

Breakfast At The Mae Deli

Nutty Granola With Almond Milk & A Matcha Latte

The Mae Deli as some of you may know it has now been rebranded as the Deliciously Ella Deli. As the business has grown, so has the menu; particularly the breakfast options. We visited as a mid-week treat to try the new granola and of course sip on their delicious matcha latte. I chose the nutty granola made from gluten free oats, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, cashews and maple syrup. Served with almond milk, this nutty delight set me up for the day! Also on the breakfast menu was banana and PB porridge, chia pudding, bircher muesli and a selection of hot dishes to suit the ‘fry-up’ cravings!

ASK Italian Vegan Pizza

Vegan Margherita with Olives, Red Peppers & Balsamic Onions

It seems as if I am slowly working my way through every Vegan pizza that the UK has to offer. This month I tried ASK Italian’s Vegan Margherita. Similar to Zizzi’s, they too offer the option of adding three toppings to a tomato and cheese base. I added olives, roasted red peppers and balsamic onions. The Vegan mozzarella alternative was more cheesy than expected, less of a watery consistency and quite light. I was surprised at how delicious the onions were considering the balsamic glazed type are usually red rather than the white kind. The crust was crispy and thin, just how I like it! I am intrigued to try the other options on their menu, particularly the baked garlic dough balls and blood orange and chocolate tart!

OSU Coconut Pancakes

Camden is and will forever be my favourite place in London. This month I came across the OSU Coconuts stall selling vegan and gluten-free pancakes made entirely from coconuts. I tried the Cocoa Power stack, oozing in a raw chocolate sauce, drizzled in the BEST peanut butter and topped with bananas and sliced fruit. Not only are they delicious, healthy and addictive, they were served with a smile from the wonderful stall holder.

Delicious pancakes + positive vibes = happy customer.
